About

Hi, I’m Pallab Kumar, the founder of DogFoodGrade

I started this site because I kept running into the same problem: dog food rating sites give a food 4 or 5 stars, but they never show you how they got there. You’re asked to trust the stars without being able to check them.

So I built a rating system you can check. Every food on DogFoodGrade is scored from three things anyone can look up: the manufacturer’s own label (guaranteed analysis, ingredient list and AAFCO statement), our published scoring formula, and the FDA’s public recall records. If you want to know why a food got 71 instead of 80, the breakdown is on its page, and you can recalculate it yourself.

What we do

  • Rate 14 dog foods with one formula, using the same rules for every brand. See how we rate dog food.
  • Track recalls and quiet recipe changes, so you know when a food you trust has changed.
  • Explain labels in plain English, so you can make your own decision.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t sell dog food, and no brand can pay for a rating or a better position in a list.
  • Affiliate commissions never change a score. Read our affiliate disclosure.
  • We don’t claim to have fed or tested foods we haven’t. Our scores come from label data, and we say so.

How we work

We use software and AI tools to collect label data and draft content, and every page is checked by a person before it’s published. When we find a mistake, we fix it and note the change. Our formula has a public changelog, and version 1.2 corrected problems we found in our own scores. Read our editorial policy.
